During a recent that focused on gender and equity-responsive development, journalists in the Sebei region were urged to utilize their platforms to drive community development. The gathering highlighted the critical role of the media in addressing societal issues, emphasizing the importance of discussing topics rather than personalities.

Mr Yusuf Muziransa | Head of Communications EOC

Mr Yusuf Muziransa the head of communications at Equal Opportunities Commission (EOC) encouraged journalists to focus on pressing community challenges, such as gender equality and equitable development, and to use their influence to foster positive change and informed public discourse. He further encouraged journalists to maintain their integrity by refraining from accepting handouts from politicians and other public officials. He stressed that unbiased reporting is essential for promoting gender equality and equitable development within the community.

A policy brief presented by the Equal Opportunities Commission (EOC) clearly spelled out several critical challenges faced by the Sebei sub-region. The brief highlighted the lack of a referral hospital, persistent conflicts with the Karamojong and Pokot communities, and frequent incidents of mudslides. Addressing these pressing issues requires urgent attention and responsible journalism to advocate for effective solutions and equitable development.
