A grade one magistrate court in Kapchorwa district has remanded a Parish Chief on allegations of obtaining money by false pretence contrary to section 305 of the Penal Code Act.
Shamim Chebet, the Parish Chief of Kongowo parish, Kapsinda Sub-County, Tingey County, Kapchorwa district has been charged with 13 counts of false pretence to help the beneficiaries benefit from the PDM funds as a prerequisite.
She appeared in court on Monday, 12 August where she was charged with 13 different counts of the same crime allegedly committed between August 2023 to January 2024. The Grade One Magistrate His Worship Muhangi Saverino G. Bugingo remanded Chebet to Kapchorwa Prison until August 24th, 2024 when she will come back to court.
On the first count, Chebet allegedly between August 2023 to January 2024 obtained 160,000 shillings from Violet Chebet; a member of Kongowo PDM SACCO with the intent to defraud the Kongowo PDM SACCO by falsely pretending that it was a requirement for her to benefit from the PDM SACCO where’s not.
The second count states that between August 2023 and January 2024 at Kongowo Parish, Kapsinda Sub-County, Tingey County, Kapchorwa district with intent to defraud obtained UGX 75,000 from Timothy Chemutai, also a member of Kongowo PDM SACCO by pretending it was a pre-condition to access the funds whereas not.
She is also accused of falsely obtaining UGX 100,000 from Margret Yeko also a member of Kongowo PDM SACCO between the month of August 2024 and January 2024, pretending that it was a requirement for her to benefit from the PDM SACCO whereas not.
Court further alleged that Chebet in the month of August 2023 at Kongowo parish received UGX 80,000 from Twala Shafik by falsely claiming that it was a requirement for him to benefit from the PDM SACCO funds whereas not among other allegations.
Chebet was arrested on Monday 12, August 2024 by the State House Anti- Corruption and remanded to Kapchorwa Prison until 22 August 2024 when the case will be heard again.
