Kapchorwa: In an inspiring display of gratitude and unity, Ugandan athletes who participated in the 2024 Olympics, led by renowned stars Joshua Cheptegei, Stella Chesang, Peruth Chemutai, Victor Kiplangat, Mercyline Chelangat, and Kiprotich Martine Magengo, today surprised their coach, Benjamin Njia, with a brand new car. The heartwarming gesture took place during a church service at Shining Light Church in Kapchorwa.

The athletes, all members of the Police Athletics Club, have had an illustrious journey under the guidance of Coach Njia, whose dedication and expertise have been instrumental in their success on the global stage. The gift, a symbol of their deep appreciation, was presented in front of a jubilant congregation, highlighting the strong bond between the athletes and their coach.

The congregation at Shining Light Church erupted in applause as the keys to the brand new car were handed over to a visibly moved Coach Njia. In his response, he thanked the athletes for their generosity and dedication, emphasizing that their achievements were a result of their hard work and commitment.

Coach Benjamin Njia, overwhelmed by the athletes’ generous gesture, shared his humble reaction, saying, “I was used to a motorcycle, and I’m still thinking about how I will transition to the car.” His words highlighted the significant change this gift represents in his life, making the moment even more poignant for those in attendance.

As the news of the gift spread, messages of congratulations poured in from across the region, with many praising the athletes for their thoughtfulness and the coach for his outstanding contributions to Ugandan athletics.

The 2024 Olympics were a success for Uganda, with Joshua Cheptegei bagging gold in the mens 10,000M and Peruth Chemutai clinching silver in the women’a 3000M Steeplechase, further cementing the country’s reputation as a powerhouse in distance running. The relationship between Coach Njia and his athletes is a testament to the power of teamwork, trust, and shared vision in achieving greatness on the world stage.
