In an effort to boost the recognition of outstanding individuals in the Sebei region, the Presidential Awards Team, led by Secretary Hajjat Malole Zaminah, conducted a sensitization workshop for local leaders. The session focused on increasing the uptake and recommendation of deserving individuals for national honors and awards.
Hajjat Malole Zaminah highlighted the low number of recommendations from the Sebei region, noting that while athletes from the area have been recognized, many other individuals who have made significant contributions to the region’s development have not received the honors they deserve. “There are people who have done tremendous work and ought to be awarded for their impact,” she emphasized.
Mrs. Atuhaire Hope, the Resident District Commissioner (RDC) of Kween District, reinforced the importance of these awards, stating that they serve as a source of prestige and encourage exemplary behavior in the community. “Medalists have always shown a good example to other members of the community,” she said.
Mr. Shaban Sentongo addressed the criteria for revoking awards, stating that honors can be revoked if it is discovered that the title was conferred on the wrong person due to misrepresentation, or if the individual is convicted of serious offenses such as those warranting a sentence of death or imprisonment of not less than five years, or involving fraud or dishonesty. He added, “Where a title of honour is revoked, the person must return the insignia within one month after notice of the revocation.”
The session concluded with a call to the RDCs to continue recognizing individuals who have made significant contributions to the region. This initiative aims to ensure that more deserving individuals from Sebei receive national recognition for their efforts in various fields, thereby inspiring others to contribute positively to the community.
