In a significant political development, four Members of Parliament from the Sebei Sub-region out of the 9 Members from the region have boldly signed a censure motion aimed at holding the Four embattled commissioners of Parliament accountable. This move has garnered widespread attention and commendation, highlighting the growing demand for transparency and integrity in Uganda’s political landscape.

The MPs—Hon. Chemutai Evelyn (Bukwo DWR), Hon. Chelangat Alinga Solomon (T’oo County), Hon. Twalla Fadil (Tingey County), and Hon. Chemutai Phyllis (Kapchorwa DWR)—have taken a courageous step that underscores their commitment to representing the voices and concerns of their people in Parliament.

While Speaking to this Editorial, Hon. Chelangat Solomon Alinga said that since Parliament is a house of Integrity and few individuals should not taint it’s image. “The government has been decrying the lack of money to provide social services to our people yet some people are running with billions that would have helped our people. So I felt we should start with this ones that we have seen though the big fish out there is still at Large . By doing this, others who could be planning may shy away.’

“My decision to append a signature is cast of the fact that i do not Condon corruption as an individual and was the right thing to do”. Hon. Chemutai Evelyn the Bukwo district Woman Representative said. This is not the first time that the legislator is taking a bold decision on a highly controversial issue as she had in the 10th Parliament cast her vote saying “No,” as she opposed the removal of the age limit, effectively supporting the retention of the original constitutional provision that would prevent anyone over the age of 75 from running for the presidency.

So far 145 Mps including the State Minister for Housing and Urban Development, Persis Namuganza, and the Leader of Opposition in Parliament (LOP), Joel Ssenyonyi have appended their signatures to the censure motion headed by Hon.Theodore Ssekikubo to censure four commissioners accused of awarding themselves approximately 1.7 billion as service awards

Earlier on Saturday while appearing on the Kapchorwa Trinity Radio’s ‘Leaders corner’ program,Hon William Chemonges pointed that he had not signed the motion since he had not looked at it’s contents yet and it’s unclear if he will or will not sign the motion.

Sebei Mps have in the near past been accused of relying more on the party position rather than consulting the electorate whom they represent in Parliament. Sebeination.com was unable to reach Hon Phyllis Chemutai and Hon Fadil Twalla who had taken a step to sign the motion.

The censure motion, spearheaded by opposition leaders, seeks to address a range of grievances, including alleged corruption, mismanagement of public funds, and inadequate response to pressing social and economic challenges. The Sabiny MPs’ support for the motion is particularly significant given their regional influence and the socio-political dynamics within their constituencies.

As the censure motion progresses, all eyes will be on the Parliament to see how this bold initiative unfolds. The Four (4) Sabiny MPs’ actions have set a precedent in the region demonstrating that elected representatives can and should challenge the status quo in the interest of their constituents and the nation.
